Lion's Mane Supplements

What lion's mane is
Lion's mane, also called yamabushitake, is recognised by its distinctive cascading white spines. It contains naturally occurring compounds called hericenones and erinacines, found in the fruiting body and the mycelium respectively.
Sourcing matters here. Fruiting-body material and mycelium carry different compound profiles, and a standardised extract states its polysaccharide content on the label rather than leaving it unspecified.

Reading a lion's mane label
A useful label states three things:
- The species name — Hericium erinaceus, not just “mushroom blend”
- Whether the material is fruiting body, mycelium, or both

Vague terms like “mushroom powder” without a stated extract ratio make it difficult to compare one product against another on anything but price.
