What cordyceps is

Cordyceps is a genus of fungi with a long history of traditional use in Tibetan and Chinese practice, where it was historically wild-harvested at high altitude and was correspondingly rare and expensive.

Two species dominate the supplement category. Cordyceps sinensis is the wild-harvested species; Cordyceps militaris is cultivated, and it is the species used in most modern products because it can be grown consistently on a substrate. C. militaris is also the species that produces measurable cordycepin.

A note on labelling: some products list “cordyceps CS-4.” That is a cultivated mycelial strain, not the wild fruiting body — a legitimate ingredient, but a different material from what the name suggests.

Choosing a format

Gummies are the most convenient daily option. Cordyceps Mushroom Gummies are strawberry-flavoured and include GABA and ginkgo.

Liquid drops offer flexible serving. The Lion's Mane & Cordyceps Drops pair cordyceps with Alpha GPC, L-Tyrosine and vitamin B12.

Multi-mushroom blends include cordyceps as one component — found in Mushroom Complex 10X, the Mushroom Extract Complex gummies, and Adaptogen Mushroom Drops.
